The Premier League Is Back

The Premier League Is Back!

The summer dust has settled. The time has come to kick some balls in anger. All eyes will no doubt be on Premier League champions Liverpool as they take on Leeds United, promoted into the FPL for 2020 as winners of the Championship. This is the pick of the games from Match Day 1, kicking off at Anfield on the weekend of 12th September (subject to TV scheduling).

Manchester City Look To Come Back Hard

Liverpool were by far the best team last season, and closest challengers and former champions Manchester City will be hurting at the 18 point gap they conceded to their bitter rivals from Merseyside. Having been granted a stay of execution by the Court of Arbitration for Sport in the club’s battle against UEFA’s Financial Fair Play ruling, City have kept hold of their star players – and their manager. But with Barcelona looming and the FPL transfer window not closing until October 5, will they keep hold of them? Bet365 currently makes Manchester City favourites to recover their title, offering even money. If Barca and Real Madrid come in for De Bruyne and Sterling those odds will sky rocket.

A Tighter 2021 FPL Season Expected

The gap at the top will no doubt be closer this season, with Chelsea, in particular, strengthening in key attacking areas. The arrivals of Timo Werner from Red Bull Leipzig and Hakim Ziyech from European giants Ajax of Amsterdam will make Chelsea top four challengers for certain. The question of whether they can challenge for the championship remains uncertain, with their defence and goalkeeper still raising eyebrows. Their manager Frank Lampard looks certain to strengthen further before the window closes. Bet365 has Chelsea fourth favourites at +1200 to take top billing. They kick off their season away at Brighton, and will look for a comfortable victory. Expect goals in that one!

The other major forces in the league will also look to improve. Jose Mourinho at Tottenham Hotspur has plenty to prove, as has Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after his trophyless season at Manchester United. Will either of them find the consistency to mount a top-four challenge and bid for a minimum necessary Champions League spot? The odds suggest yes for United, but not so certain for the Spurs of Tottenham. The Wolves of Wolverhampton and the Sheffield United Blades came close to upsetting the elite last season and will be pushing to go one step further.

Can The promoted Teams Stay Up?

Leeds United have pedigree at the top level and will look to strike up the league. Their form in the Championship over the past few seasons make them a safer bet than the other two promoted teams to stay up. Fulham and West Brom are bookies’ favorites to go straight back down, and it will take a massive effort from either side to beat the drop. Fulham have top talents in Ryan Sessegnon and Aleksander Mitrovic, but can they be clinical enough to survive in the Premier League? Time will tell. But as the season prepares to kick off every single fan across the globe will scour the season’s fixtures and look out for the big matches and the games against their local rivals. Just like them we will kick every ball, slide into every challenge and head every cross. We will be with you every step of the way.
